Following the success of its previous summer series and annual virtual conventions, Virtuous Con continues to offer intimate learning experiences designed to empower and equip creators across mediums to bring their ideas to life. Each 2-hour workshop is led by a visionary instructor at the forefront of their field, providing attendees with actionable insights into pitching, storytelling, world-building, and purpose-driven writing.
David Crownson, CEO of Kingwood Comics and creator of the hit graphic novel Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer, opens the series on July 9 with a session on crafting irresistible pitches that get industry buy-in. On July 16, Queendom Come (Tubi) creator and independent filmmaker Sarah Jefferson Carter guides attendees through the process of building genre television and film projects from the ground up. Then, on July 20, award-winning artist, author, and professor John Jennings leads a workshop on Afrofuturistic worldbuilding rooted in African and diasporic cultures. The series concludes on July 27 with acclaimed novelist Leslye Penelope (The Monsters We Defy) helping writers craft fiction that centers purpose and personal truth.
